Side-by-side breakdowns of exotic pet gear to help you pick the right product for your setup and budget. This category covers comparisons like misting systems vs foggers, with specifics on humidity output, cost, maintenance, and which reptile or amph
Glass terrariums pass UVB light at full strength and cost less upfront, but they bleed heat and humidity through the glass and screen top. PVC enclosures insulate better and hold humidity without cons
A UVB bulb and a basking bulb solve two different problems: one produces the radiation reptiles need to synthesize vitamin D3, the other produces heat for digestion and thermoregulation. The tiebreak
T5 HO tubes push roughly double the UVB intensity of T8 tubes at the same distance, which is the actual reason to pick one over the other. The decision comes down to how deep your enclosure is and how
A UVB bulb is a dedicated UV source that you pair with a separate heat bulb and run on its own schedule. A mercury vapor bulb packs UVB and heat into one self-ballasted unit, which cuts the fixture co
An on/off thermostat cuts power completely at setpoint and lets temperature drift before kicking back on; a dimming thermostat tapers power as it approaches setpoint and holds a tighter line. The gap
A deep heat projector puts out infrared warmth with no visible glow, built for heating an enclosure around the clock without disturbing a nocturnal animal's sleep cycle. A halogen basking bulb puts ou
A halogen basking bulb puts out visible light along with heat, which diurnal reptiles use as a cue to start basking. A ceramic heat emitter puts out heat with no light at all, which matters for nightt
The real difference comes down to what's already screwed into your fixture and how that bulb distributes heat. A ceramic heat emitter warms the surrounding air the way a space heater does, runs hot en
A heat mat delivers conductive belly heat with no light output, while a heat lamp delivers radiant overhead heat plus light. The right choice depends entirely on how your species thermoregulates in th
